UNI-NG The University of Nova Gorica aims to be a research, internationally established university, which will be recognised as a driving force of social development in the region and in a wider context. The university hosts the Laboratory of Quantum Optics (LKO) that was built in 2012.

LKO will base its activity on the development and use of the CITIUS light source. The construction of CITIUS is funded by the program for Italy-Slovenia cross-border cooperation 2007-2013. The project relies on the collaboration between Italian and Slovenian public and private institutes and, in particular, on the tight collaboration between the University of Nova Gorica and Sincrotrone Trieste.
