By Metro
The easiest way to reach Madrid downtown from the airport is by metro. L8 metro line connects the four terminals of the airport with Nuevos Ministerios metro station where you can take L6 metro line to República Argentina (exit to Juan de la Cierva Street). From there, IO is at 5 minutes walking distance. Alternatively, the Instituto de Optica can be reached by 10 minutes walking from Nuevos Ministerios (exit to Castellana pares, even numbers of Castellana Street). More information and timetable at:

An express bus line (Line 203) is available 24 h from all terminals of the airport to Cibeles bus stop where you can take bus 51 up to Velázquez-Joaquín Costa bus stop. Lines C1 and C10 connects terminal T4 of the airport with Nuevos Ministerios train station where you can reach the IO either by walking or by taking L6 metro line to República Argentina, then 5 minutes walking to the CSIC campus in Serrano street.
