HOW TO REACH GARCHING FROM THE LOCAL AIRPORT (MUNICH AIRPORT/ MUC)

There are two possibilities to reach Garching that is located about 16 km sw from Munich Airport:

• You take the S-Bahn (= suburbian train) no. 1 to the stop “Neufahrn” and change there for the bus no. 690 to “Garching-Forschungszentrum”. Leave the bus at the terminal stop.
• You take the S-Bahn (= suburbian train) no. 8 to the stop “Ismaning” and change there for the bus no. 230 to “Garching-Forschungszentrum”. Leave the bus at the terminal stop.

By Taxi

Taxis are available in front of Munich Airport (just follow the signs). Costs will be around 50€, depending on time of the day. Please note: Taxi costs will only be reimbursed if no public tranportation is available (too late or too early at MUC)!

HOW TO REACH GARCHING BY TRAIN FROM MUNICH CENTRAL STATION

Please go down to the basement of the central station where the “S-Bahn” (= suburbian train) operates. Take one to “Marienplatz” (two stops). There you can change to the underground line U6 with the destination “Garching-Forschungszentrum”.

Please note: Be sure to take a train with this destination on it, because there are relief trains only to “Fröttmaning” or “Münchner Freiheit”!

Alltogether you will need around half an hour (pure journey time).

ACCOMMODATION

For all reimbursed users, the booking of the accommodation by the MLZ User Office is mandatory. We will book a hotel in Garching city, Garching-Hochbrück, or in the North of Munich for you. You will have to give the details during your application for the visit via our online User Office system GhOST (https://ghost.mlz-garching.de)

APPLICATION FOR VISIT

All users planning to visit the MLZ in the scope of an experiment OR participating in a remote experiment have to apply for this via our online User Office system GhOST (https://ghost.mlz-garching.de) three weeks before the experiment starts at the latest.
