Data Management and Virtual Access
FORTH (GREECE) - JUNE 12-14, 2024
The school is part of the training activities organized by NFFA-Europe, a Research and Innovation Action under the H2020 Work Programme.
It is open to graduate students, post-docs and young researchers, including also technicians, engineers and all scientists from academic and industrial communities interested in gaining knowledge and practical experience of NFFA-Europe tools for data and metadata management and virtual access services.
Data management practices that follow the FAIR principles — Findable, Accessible, Interoperable, Reusable — are increasingly central to the various activities of European research infrastructures as they allow data to be verified and reproduced, processes that are fundamental to the progress of science.
Virtual Access is a new mode of cloud services offered by NFFA-Europe, which includes innovative online simulation services, databases, machine learning services, data analysis and metadata management.
This three-day Summer School aims to guide researchers to effectively put FAIR principles into practice and to make use of virtual access services. It will provide an introduction to specific data and metadata management tools (data management plans, repositories, metadata schemas) and to each of the online virtual access services offered in NFFA-Europe.
The sessions will be widely supported by dedicated tutorials and hands-on activities.
Participants will need to bring their own laptop and will have to have an account on www.nffa.eu.

How to reach Crete
By air: The airport Nikos Kazantzakis (airport Code: HER) is the only one in Heraklion. We highly recommend a taxi to get to the city centre; taxi service is provided just outside the airport.
By sea: There are two major ship companies on the line: Athens-Heraklion. Minoan lines and ANEK lines provide daily service from and towards Crete. There are taxis available as well as buses near the port.
How to reach FORTH
By Taxi (20 minutes): Phone number for calling a taxi and for information: (+30) 2810 210102, (+30) 2810 210146. The cost of a taxi from the city centre to FORTH is approximately 15-20 €. Taxis in Heraklion are coloured silver. The name of FORTH in Greek is spelled and pronounced "ITE".
